This paper investigates the trend pattern of major 4 countries of Korea, China, Japan and U.S. and how to change in trade complementarity, export similarity index,In case of index of trade complementarity, it has same result as traditional theory expected in export case. But in import case, it has negative relation with trade creation to the extent that the country which has higher index of trade complementarity compared to the trade partner country seems to have higher comparative advantage.
Our result suggests some meaningful policy implication toward bilateral or multilateral trade negotiation by suggesting policy priority. Also selective priority among the sectors would be helpful for the involving country in order to increase own welfare.
It is strongly suggested that in future research, the analysis on the individual country's trade benefit change should be accompanied to overcome the limitations of gravity model.
