The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of adolescent adjustment factors (attachment to parent, school life adjustment, depression, self-control) on internet addiction and the relative significance of those factors. The subjects were 400(222 male, 178 female) middle school students at Y gun in Jeonnam province. They completed the Internet Addiction Questionnaire (K-Questionnaire), Korean version of IPPA-R(Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Revision), School Life Adjustment Questionnaire, Children's Depression Inventory and Self-Control Questionnaire.
The results were as follows: first, gender, school achievement, and SES had significant effects on adolescent internet addiction. Second, parent attachment(parent-adolescent communication, mutual confidence,alienation) had no effects on adolescent internet addiction. However, relationship with peer and school rule had significant effects on adolescent internet addiction. Third, both depression and self-control had effects on adolescent internet addiction. Fourth, depression had the greatest effects on adolescent internet addiction followed by gender and self-control.
