An aim of this study is to estimate the characteristics of coastal pollution, comparing between load and characteristics of pollutants generated from cities and counties in Gyeongnam Namhae coastal areas. Pollution load(BOD) caused by municipal sewage and industrial wastewater in Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae occupied as much as 82.1% of pollution load(BOD) for point sources of pollutant in these cities. Quantity of muncipal sewage generated from these cities occupied as much as 74.1% of total quantity of municipal sewage generated from whole cities and counties in Gyeongnam Namhae coastal areas, and quantity of industrial wastewaters generated from these cities occupied as much as 92% of their total quantity generated from the whole cities and counties. It indicates that bay of Masan and Jinhae have mainly contaminated due to both municipal sewage and industrial wastewaters. Pollution loads(BOD and T - N) caused by leachates of waste dumping sites showed up the highest values at Tongyeong - Myeongjung waste dumping sites, and those by night soil treatment plant showed up the highest values at Jinhae night soil treatment plant. Ratio of BOD and T -N concentration for effluents of various environmental treatment facilities located along Gyeongnam Namhae coastal areas is approximately 1:3 - 1:14. It indicates that nitrogen compounds less removed while BOD materials were removed to some extend, their considerable amount have been spewed into the coastal sea and have come to be a cause of the coastal eutrophication. Pollution load(BOD) caused by feedlot wastes and agricultural runoff showed up the highest values in Gosung county, and it occupied as much as 87.4% 01 total pollution load(BOD) for point sources of pollutant in this county. It indicates that Gosung county has largely contributed to the pollution of Namhae coastal seas by both feedlot wastes and agricultural runoff. In the case of pollution load caused by long line suspended oyster culturing ground in Gyeongnam Namhae coastal seas, 87.4% of its total pollution load was concentrated in the coastal sea around Tongyeong-Keoje- Gosung. It was not only equivalent to 4.2 times of total pollution load(BOD) for point sources of pollutant in these areas but it also exceeded the total pollution load flowing into Masan and Jinhae bay. It indicates that coastal pollution by long line suspended oyster culturing ground has been propound in the coastal sea around Tongyeong-Keoje-Gosung.
