In this investigation all countries are symbolically divided and grouped in three groups by their English language relationship and production place of English language carrying visual materials. English language studying visual materials, which have been produced in countries different from English native ones (first countries) and used out of bounds of their produced country, are labelled as third country ones. DVD English subtitles from the movie The Hound of the Baskervilles (former USSR, 1981) have been investigated as an example of third country visual tools for English language education. The subtitles were analyzed for English words, parts of speech, grammar, sentences representatives and, then, were compared with the original story text. The subtitles appear to be about one fourth the length of the original story. Nonetheless, they have a long list of different words with well balanced parts of speech and include all basic sentence structures. The subtitles are highly saturated with conversations: 100 words or 12 sentences are “spoken” per minute. Every fifth sentence is a question. Parts of speech like verbs, prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs, combination of which traditionally characterize a variety of texts, are widely presented and cover about 15.8%, 10.3%, 3.5% and 1.5% of the subtitles’ text, correspondently. The investigation of subtitles has also indicated that they remain faithful to the original story in both key dialogs and total text. About 70% of the investigated part of the movie subtitles are completely identical (or lightly adapted) to the original story. The possibility and efficiency of the usage of such visual materials are discussed.
