The purpose of this study is firstly to investigate models of instruction from the perspectives of critical thinking skills in teaching English as a second language. Three basic models: generic, immersion and infusion are studied. A review of the literature indicates that the generic model does not succeed in promoting transfer across domains. It does, however make abstractions clear to students. The immersion model does succeed in raising the level of understanding of critical thinking skills. It makes no attempt to promote transfer across domains. The infusion model appears to succeed not only in raising students interest in ideas but also in promoting transfer across subject domains. The second purpose is to suggest teaching methods on the subject of euthanasia. Suggestions are made according to pre-critical thinking, while-critical thinking and post-critical thinking.
