The effect of exercise on glucose transport metabolism, especially in the skeletal muscular system has been well established. However, even though the respiratory system has an important role during exercise, exercise induced changes in the lung system has not been explored yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of exercise and mechanism on GLUT-1 expression in the lung. The effect of treadmill running exercise on GLUT-1, and aPKC phosphorylation was studied in the lung and the skeletal muscle of C57Bl/6 mice. The mice (n=8 per group) were randomly divided into four different experimental groups (15min, 30min, 45min, 60min) and Control (rest). As a result, first, GLUT-1 protein expression (three folds) was significantly elevated during post exercise while there was no difference between exercise. Second, exercise increased the aPKC expression in the lung but had no significant differences in Akt phosphorylations with control group. These results indicated that an acute exercise bout have enhanced GLUT-1 protein expression by aPKC activation. In conclusion, acute exercise affect not only in the skeletal muscle system but also in the lung.
