Han, J.T., Ryu, T.B., Lee, H.J. Analysis of plantar foot pressure distribution for walking direction switch during walking in healthy adults. Exercise Science. 17(4): 515-523, 2008. The purpose of this study was to investigate the plantar foot pressure distribution for walking direction switch in normal adults. Sixteen healthy adults who had no musculoskeletal disorders were participated and instructed to perform a straight walking and 90° & 180° turn around during gait with barefoot. Pathway of center of pressure(COP), plantar foot pressures and ground contact duration were recorded by the Footmat system(Tekscan, Boston, USA). Plantar foot surface was defined as seven regions for pressure measurement; two toe regions, three forefoot regions, one midfoot region, one heel region. Repeated ANOVA was used to analyze data of foot pressure and ground contact duration in each plantar foot region, and the pathway of COP was investigated. The results indicated that there are generally significant increases in plantar foot pressure on toe region, forefoot and heel and ground contact duration for walking direction switch, and found out that the pathway of COP had a tendency to be shortened and adducted in inner way. Therefore, plantar foot pressure were changed for the walking directions switch and these findings demonstrated that the walking directions switch have an effect on the structure and function of the foot.
