The aim of current study was to examine the effects of CLA intake and bodybuilding on body composition and isokinetic muscular function. We studied 40 male students and subjects were divided into 5 groups as Placebo(Pla), Placebo+exercise(Pla+EX), Exercise(EX), CLA, and CLA+exercise(C+EX). We measured anthropometric factors(BMI, percent body fat, and DEXA), isokinetic muscular function of knee joint by cybex at pre and post-program. Paired T-test was used to assess differences pre and post program. The percentage of body fat in EX group significantly decreased after training, whereas body weight and BMI showed no change after training. Skinfold thickness of CLA, EX, C+EX group showed significantly decrease after training in triceps, suprailiac, and thigh. Waist circumference showed significantly decreased after training in C+EX and EX group. Body fat volume of Pla+EX group showed significantly increase after training, whereas C+EX and EX group showed significantly increase after training, and Pla group showed significantly increase in leg after training. Lean body mass of Pla+EX, C+EX and EX group significantly increased in only arm after training. Muscular function are significantly increased in C+EX group of left extension strength but CLA group was significantly decreased in left extension strength. In conclusion, CLA intake may be effective treatment for the maintenance of positive body composition and muscular function in bodybuilding.
