Digital image processing has advanced very rapidly in this modern society. This thesis deals with the necessity of and potential for using digital image processing for construction photos. In particular, it aimed to apply image merging to construction photos. Using digital image merging, high quality photos that were once difficult to obtain for analog photos can be produced and effects from the viewing angle can be maximized. In this thesis, research was conducted on image merging programs and photography techniques, with the aim of finding a technique that could be used to produce high-quality construction photos that can be used not only on the Internet but for printing and publishing as well. Among the various programs with image merging feature in use today, the following were selected for comparison: Photoshop CS3, Stitcher Unlimited, PTGui v7.0 pro, The Panorama Factory v5, and Autopano Giga2. The most important factors when shooting construction photos - distortion, exposure and color temperature - and factors that contribute to image inconsistency that occur when doing spilt shots, as well as lens flare, were the items of comparison to assess the performance of the programs. In addition The focal distance and the amount of overlap among split shot images were varied and the results were compared. Also, vertical split shots and horizontal split shots were compared, as well as changes in the image size after applying image merging.
