Every urban displays unique characteristics in it’s environment and structure. The photographs of a urban’s landscape, which are recorded in images, not only present the urban’s special character and atmosphere in it’s visual element but also records the environmental and structural components that each urban exhibits independently.
There has not been a defined method of approaching photographing a urban landscape so far. It has been generally done by urban-related experts or photographers with their subjective interpretation.
In order to propose an alternative method to photographing a urban landscape it must present, as an objective, the suggestion of a common and consistent urban landscape photography method based on the ‘Five components of forming image: landmarks, districts, paths, nodes, and edges” as stated by Kevin Lynch, a urban designer in from the United States.
In this study I analyzed the components in the images of the urban of Yeouido and applied it to the analysis, according to Lynch’s photography method, regarding each component.
To prove objectivity in the result, a survey had been administered to photography specialists and urban-related experts. The results of the survey shows better aesthetic expression and physical structure than previously existing photographs.
Therefore, by photographing urban landscapes using the photography method suggested in this study, it can be possible to photograph a urban landscape in common and consistency according to Lynch’s method.
