Consensual Divorce: Causes and Gender Differences Young-Ju Chun (Silla University) A questionnaire, which distinguished 26 factors contributing to divorce, was distributed to 4000 men and women who filed for consensual divorce in the Busan Family Court. Approximately 56% responded to the survey. Of the significant reasons that prevented couples from keeping their marriage, the major identified causes were differences in personality,　differences in ways of thinking,　and financial hardship.　Gender differences were greatest in relation to such causal factors as physical abuse,　involvement of family-in-law, and psychological abuse.　The author addressed the implications of the results for pre-marital education and couples counseling.
