급성 호산구폐렴은 호산구의 폐 침윤에 의해 발생하는 질환이지만 원인과 기전은 아직 명확하지 않다. 직접적인 인과관계가 밝혀져 있지 않지만 흡연도 급성 호산구폐렴의 한 원인으로 보고되고 있다. 직접흡연에 의해 발생한 급성 호산구폐렴에 대해 여러 보고가 있었으나 간접흡연자에게 발생한 예는 아직 없었다. 저자들은 병력 청취와 소변 코티닌 측정으로 확인 된 간접흡연에 의한 것으로 추정되는 급성 호산구폐렴 1예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다.
