This study intended to identify the effects of storytelling-based science class on the level at which middle-schoolers draw the structure of a human body and on their understanding of the functions of human organ systems. The research subjects were 162 third-grade middle school students, and the class proceeded in the course of fourteen times. The effects of storytelling were identified through the drawing of human organ systems and the open-ended questionnaires on the functions of each organ. The drawing of human organ systems resulted in the following: in the pretest, students hardly drew the urogenital organ and nervous systems; after the storytelling-based class, however, the higher percentage of them drew more than three organ systems accurately. The open-ended questionnaire survey to examine their understanding of the functions of human organs resulted in the following: in the pretest, students' misconceptions were found on almost all organs, and even when they drew the organs at the right positions, their understanding of the organic functions was deficient; the storytelling-based class, however, allowed students to comprehensively approach each organic system of a human body and to remember the contents of learning well through interesting stories, thus having positive influence on the correction of their misconceptions on the functions of human organs.
