The purpose of this study was to analyze suitability of ‘Life Cycle of Plant’ external represen- tation in 2007, 2009 reform science textbook. The subjects of this study were 41 pre-service elementary teachers. This study’s method was analysis of eye movement and question investigation. SMI was used to collect EMD(eye movement data). Experiment 3.2 and BeGaze 3.2 programs were used to plan experiment and analyze EMD. The results of this study were as in the following. First, verbal representation led to faster visual attention than image representation. Second, The layout of the image representation affected direction of gaze transition and fixation time. Third, when image representation was high relevance of learning content and friendly material, effective visual attention was guided. Fourth, when image representation presented with verbal representation to describe the image representation, more higher visual attention was led.
