This paper aims to develop and apply a program for personalizing the environment through role playing and to examine its effects on learning. For the research, 130 second-year students in four classes in a middle school located in Seoul were used as subjects. Students in the experimental group were taught environment personalization through role playing, whereas students in the control group were given traditional expository instruction. The group that received the environment personalization instruction through role playing showed greater improvement compared with the group that received traditional instruction in their environment knowledge, attitude, and personalization (p<.01). Of the program contents, students showed particularly high levels of preference for observing and performing role plays. This implies that educational effects may also be expect from students not necessarily directly performing the role plays but participating by observing them.
