This study focused on the development of learner-centered instruction that could stimulate learners to engage actively in and their perception of it. This learner-centered instruction was on the basis of the self-directed learning using feedbacks and effective to stimulate teacher-students and student- student interactions. This instruction consisted of 4 phases as follows: planning, performing,explaining and reflecting. The learner-centered biological instruction was developed for secondary school students. They had very positive perception about the learner-centered biological instruction in learning participation, learning interest and learning effect. This study showed that the learnercentered instruction based on the self-directed learning could be very effective teaching method to stimulate students’ interest and engagement, and to encourage learners' self-direction.
