The objective of this study is to identify the implementation patterns of translation universals according to text type based on Korean comparable corpus. By examining lexical density as an indicator of information volume, and type-token ratio as an indicator of lexical diversity, we demonstrate that simplification is not a characteristic common to all text types and that among the three elements of simplification—information volume, lexical diversity, and sentence length—what appears in all text types is the simplification of information volume, which means that translated texts are lower in lexical density than non-translated texts and, as a result, they are low in the ratio of semantic words to functional words. As simplification is implemented differently according to text type, this study proposes to analyze the linguistic characteristics of translated texts in comparison with non-translated texts building a large volume of corpus according to source language, text type and genre, and to establish translation strategies in consideration of source language, text type, and genre and to utilize them in translation education.
