This study examines musical as an object of translation, drawing on the concept of cultural translation. Musical is a genre which combines a multitude of elements including songs and language, stage performance. This unique trait makes performability and singability the governing norms in translating musicals. The invisibility of translator is manifested in its extreme form in musical translation, since musical translation is not a product of an individual translator but an outcome of engagement by various agents involved in the production. Musical, as a cultural product and an example of cultural transfer, also provides a fertile ground to talk about cultural translation. Cultural translation happens which a foreign experience is internalized and rewritten by the receiving culture. The analysis of the English texts of Miss Saigon and its Korean translation suggests that along with other methods frequently used on in translation of any genre, the use of inversion constructions and the employment of short but intense expressions are the most conspicuous tactics in translation of Miss Saigon. Such findings on the translation of English musical will offer insights in the translation of Korean musicals into English in the future.
