This study aims to establish the academic basis of cosmetic treatment as an art form by examining the aspects expressed in the makeup. The followings are the results of this study. First, the aesthetic experience is the beauty with pure delight as well as the enabling a complete escape from reality by full satisfaction in the process with no discomfort. Second, the grace of beauty is the manifestation of the feminine spirit. It is expressed mainly in the makeup of the 1930s and 1940s when the femininity was emphasized and fantasy makeup was used with its organic curves. Third, sublime beauty is expressed by the secrecy of beauty, endlessness and dissolute. Abstinent images and hateful images are expressed with objects in the makeup. Fourth, tragic beauty increases the value of the mixed emotions of delight and discomfort by anguish. Fifth, the comic of beauty enables one to acquire cheerfulness of mind in the subjective experience(Erleichterung), liberation from pressures(Entlastung) and liberty of spirit. Finally, ugliness is the non-formality of non-shape, non-balance and incongruity. Its substantial feature is distortion and its expressional feature is inaccuracy.
