The purpose of this research is to identify music preference of people, which brings about music therapy outcomes effectively. For this study, individual factor was divided into musical factor and extra musical factor. This study was carried out for a total 1824 people whose ages are between 20 years old and 50 years old, grouping subjects by each province. The results of the research are as follows. First, most public listened to music for pleasure. In addition, there was statistical difference between the purpose of music listening and individual factor, age, sex, level of education, occupation, and experience of music lesson. Second, the most preference musical activity of public was listening, and there was statistical difference between musical activity and individual factor, age, sex, level of education. occupation and experience of music lesson. Third, the most favorite genre was korean pop music and also there was statistical difference among individual factors. Forth, most people may listen to music with MP3 player. This results will effect on developing music therapy program for general public.
