This study investigated the relationship between the child's emotional intelligence and his/her father's child-rearing behavior. Furthermore, by demographic factors of the child and father, the differences in the relationships were explored. The subjects were 67 five-year-old children and their fathers. The child's emotional intelligence was evaluated by the modified ‘Teacher's Manual of Rating Scale for Children's Emotional Intelligence’, and father's child-rearing behavior was assessed by the Korean version of 'Iowa Parent Behavior Inventory(IPBI): Father Form.' Data were analyzed by means of t-tests, one-way ANOVA's, and Scheffe post-hoc analyses, using SPSS Win. 17.0. The results are as follows. First, child's emotional intelligence is significantly higher for those with fathers working in the field of administrative affairs or professional fields in comparison to those fathers working in service industry or sales. The girl's emotional intelligence is also significantly higher than that of the boy. Secondly, the ‘limit-setting’ parenting behavior is more frequently utilized in younger father than those of the other age groups. Also fathers with one-child are more sensitive and friendly. Thirdly, child's emotional intelligence is higher for fathers who are more deeply involved in the child-rearing practice.
