This essay addresses about the formation and development of nationalism in North Korea. Especially, the research aims to explore about the slogan 'Racial partnership' and 'Kim Il-sung nation'. North Korea re-interpreted the nationalism as the progressive ideology after collapse of USSR and Eastern European states. It was the necessity for countermeasures because the North Korea had to prove how the North Korea different from the Eastern states. Re-interpreting the nationalism, North Korea tried to develop new strategy as 'Racial partnership' between South and North Korea and 'Kim Il-sung nation.' Both of slogans had tried to build the ‘powerful socialist nation’ against international isolation. Those slogans have been sought not only economic aid from South Korea but political legitimacy in North Korea.
