In consideration of the recent trend and intensified concern for natural material and dyestuff in the cosmetic industry, the current study was aimed at exploring feasibilities of using Korean paper as material for nail art works. For this aim, efforts were made in this study to present a new nail art technique to express the motives of sagunza (four gentlemanly plants) such as plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo which have been traditional means of oriental painting applied in good harmony with Korean paper on a man-made nail tip without recourse to any brush. In the process, color paste was prepared with Korean paper made of paper mulberry compounded with 6 colors (black, red, yellow, green, navy blue and brown) and used as a water-soluble dye. As a result, it was found that colored Korean paper could be used as a natural foundational material when glued on the surface of a nail tip. It was also possible to create any kinds of forms from plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo on nails if fibroid properties of the color paste could be fully utilized by using a pincette to separate each ply of fiber from each other and plot a composition on its ground. By doing so, the same effect could be drawn here as from the case in which it was painted without using a brush. It is thought, therefore, that the suggested technique is worth of being used as a new way of nail art expression and as a natural means of expression for actual nails as well.
