호흡기세포융합바이러스는 소아 하기도 감염의 주된 원인으로 대부분의 양호한 경과를 보이지만, 일부에서는 호흡부전과 같은 심한 경과를 보이기도 한다. 이러한 심한 호흡기세포융합바이러스 감염에는드물지 않게 폐외증상이 동반될 수 있다. 저자들은 기계 환기를 필요로 하는 하기도 감염과 함께 급성심근염, 전격성 간 기능부전을 보인 심한 호흡기세포융합바이러스 감염을 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.
