Septic encephalopathy is defined as brain dysfunction secondary to sepsis. It occurs in
septic patients as a manifestation of multi-organ dysfunction. Without evidence of intracranial
infection, various extracranial infections causing severe sepsis may induce septic
encephalopathy. We report a patient with septic encephalopathy complicating acute appendicitis.
Initially, the patient presented with impaired mental state and raised liver enzymes.
