The purpose of this study is to provide the result of needs analysis of Vietnam women immigrants as learners of Korean language. This article presents the results of a survey aimed at assessing the needs of Vietnam women immigrants, along with its pedagogical implications. This study was conducted in order to examine the needs relating to three areas: (1) language contact(situation/place), (2) language topics, and (3) communicative functions.
Language contact area consists of twelve questions such as shopping place, hospital, school, etc. In the area of language topics, 15 topics are chosen for investigating where Vietnam women immigrants use Korean language. Lastly, the area of communicative functions include 23 language functions representing main categories mentioned in Van EK and Trim (1998). This study would be able to give useful informations in planning Korean language curriculum for Vietnam women immigrants. The result of application of this questionnaire to classes will be reported in the future.
