This research is an attempt to understand the priayi in Javanese society with the concept of cultural capital that was presented by Piere Bourdieu, by analyzing the five selected memoirs of Nh. Dini. The reason for choosing the memoirs as the subject of this reserah was because they are closely related to the childhood socialization as well as the traditional values which has become one of the important concerns in this research. Based on the analysis, the research has proven that the subject of her works was not to legitimatize the priayi as a respectable social status, but to represent it as values which should be applied in anybody’s daily life through behavior and attitude as a cultural capital. Considering that the values of priayi still linger in society and that some groups of people are intending to preserve the existence of priayi in the present era, the memoirs of Nh. Dini give a different perspective of how to interpret the priayi.
