Drawing on its considerable political and economic resources, the Saudi leadership has consistently argued that it has pursued domestic policies in support of modernization and development with an emphasis on cooperation, negotiation, and compromise that is consistent with the Quran. The Saudi royal family is the most stable institution in the region, at least in terms of longevity. the royal family has not been immune to criticism and threats to its political legitimacy. The hegemony of the Saudi is based on a system that privileges closeness and the ethos of “Islamic familialism,” an indigenous world outlook that few Saudi deviate from. Opponents of the regime maintain that the oil wealth has been used to enrich the Saudi family more than the country , that the government is corrupt, and that refusal of the House of Saud to share power is non- Islamic. There is also dissatisfaction among many with the close ties between Saudi Arabia and the United States. Opposition in these new spaces may alter the language of Saudi politics, it may lead to further reforms, and it may lead to collapse of the state. And as the global trends intensify, the language of both opposition and government in Saudi Arabia may to come closer rather than becoming father apart.
