The purpose of this study is to find how and why the korean writer, Hyun Jin Geon and the thai writer, Lao Khamhom described the problem of “Poverty” in their short story.
In “A day of good luck” Hyun Jin Geon describe the destitute and dismal reality of the urban lower class in 1920s’ through the description on the whole day life of the urban rickshaw, a man of surname Kim(Kim cheomji) realistically. And Lao Khamhom in his short story “Golden legged frog” told the miserable and unenlightened rural people in 1950s of the northeast part of Thailand through the description on the whole day of the farmer, Nak Nangam.
Both realism writer each witness the real life of the poor in Seoul under the Japanese colony and the silly, ignorant and dark life in rural area people under the military dictatorship and appeal to the wealthy and intelligent in the city people to understand and help them for the better life.
