The mutual understanding between female immigrants for marriage and the Korean community should be preceded in order to make the female immigrants become the part of the community without conflicts. However, in the past time, such understanding and effort were only forced onto the female immigrants; whereas Korean family members including Korean male spouses and family-in-laws have not felt such needs.
Female immigrants from Vietnam take up the largest portion of the entire female immigrants for marriage in Korea, and thereby have a great influence in the Korean community. Therefore, it is very critical for Koreans to understand their culture and identity.
For this reason, this research would investigate the Vietnamese traditional marriage and its features as to facilitate the understanding of Vietnamese female immigrants to Korea. This is because the marriage ceremony is one of the oldest traditions which reflect the history, religion, and custom of a country and its people.
