Malayan, like Indonesian, belongs to Austronesia. In its history, Malayan was used at the first time by citizens in east coast of Sumatera Island. Malay Peninsula, west coast, and north of Kalimantan Island, has developed types of Malayan dialect, both internally and socially, in almost all Indonesia. Besides, they also developed two national languages, Malaysian and Indonesian. Both languages, Malaysian and Indonesian, because they come from the same root, which is Malayan, definitely they have many similarities. But, because of the history of the countries is different, Malaysia was colonized by England was Indonesia was colonized by Dutch, Indonesian and Malaysian has many significant differences. History has given Indonesia one unity language called Bahasa Indonesia. The name has been used officially since “Sumpah Pemuda” event in 28 October 1928. Previously, the language named Malayan which was used as lingua franca in all over Indonesia, as the language of an ethnic in Riau area, North Sumatera. Since “Sumpah Pemuda“, there many changes has been happening in Indonesian, thus if we compare Indonesian that we use now with Malayan, especially with classic Malayan which was used in tale, such as Si Miskin tale, we will see that many changes has happened in Indonesian. This phenomena didn’t happen automatically, but through many struggles and efforts such as “kongres bahasa”, the forming of Language Research Foundation, etc. The changes meant can be the occurring of new words, besides the disappearing of part of the words that was usually used in the past, new terms, new form of word, sentences pattern that different from Malay sentence pattern, and also the style of the language. The difference with Malayan is the absorption of local language and foreign language, development of its own language, the use of foreign bond morpheme, effect of local language, the role of analogy in language, the expression of translation. Seeing so many changes, it looks like Indonesia language is a new language. If we read Indonesian text, people who understand Malayan will understand that text in level lower than 100%. The progress of Indonesian languages from Malayan still goes on in a century. There were so many changes inside that showed fact that Indonesian language tried to enhance their ability in order to be a knowledge language and technology. And now on, it has became a individual and independent language
