This paper considers the contents of Korean language education in the articles appeared in Lectures on Korean Letters and Language. Korean language education under the “Korean Language Encouragement Policy” of the Governor-General of Korea had been heavily influenced by the Policy,and the primary objective of the education was to prepare for various Korean language examinations. As a result, the development of the educational contents and structure followed a different route from the Korean language textbooks of the past, in terms of pronunciation, grammar, and style. In this sense, Lectures may be considered to be quite progressive, and it made possible some development in educational contents. Yet due to the policies of the Governor-General of Korea and the situation of society under the colonial rule, Korean language education provided by this organization could not have been reflected in to modern Korean language education, and remained episodic. Given this kind of historical incident, it is essential for a diachronic analysis of the contents of Korean language education to take into account the historical context, and to discuss the objective of education and social meaning of Korean language education against the historical background.
