This study looks at the traditional sports as the vehicles able to display national cultures and spirits. Nowadays, we’re experiencing a fast and steady process of uniformization and homogenization of different traditional cultures, and this process applies also to different sports which seem to lose their traditional character. While appreciating the bridging of different cultures through uniformed forms of sport,I wish to emphasize the necessity of protection of its traditional tenets, communicating them in the public debate, and showing the new roles of traditional sports in the future world.
Each national sport culture offers its own specific values, which can be easily adapted by and contribute to the global modern society. Thus, in my opinion, it is rather crucial to hold traditional sports festivals by using diverse rules rather than to succumb to the uniform ones. In the contemporary world traditional sports cultures have to be preserved by all available means. Our goal should be unity in difference.
