The aims of this study are to examine the instructional strategy in amulti-grade class using the fairy tale. Many teachers have come up with variousideas concerning instruction methods in multi-grade classes. Multi-gradeeducation expects social and collaborative interaction between students of mixedage groups. Also, its philosophy calls for the use of experiential learningactivities and hands-on assignments in order to allow students to make meaningthrough their interaction with others in the classroom environment. However, itis not easy for a teacher to perform learning activities for two gradessimultaneously. We need a progressive approach to incorporate diverse activitiesinto multi-grade education. The fairy tale can be appropriate example to achieve the goals for amulti-grade class. This study suggests that the fairy tale’s ‘typical story’ and‘story picture’ can be used as strategies to improve multi-grade education. Through this approach, it is possible to improve our educational perception andinduce further studies related to this problem.
