The paper by Andrei M. Ranchin is devoted to the comparative analysis of Iosif Brodsky’s poem “Prishla zima, i vse, kto mog letet’…” (1964) and lyrics of Boris Pasternak. Brodsky’s poem has not regarded as a subject of an intent analysis and interpretation till now. This text belongs to the most obscure poems by Brodsky. In the paper the poem by Iosif Brodsky is analyzed in its intertextual connections with Pasternak’s poetry. The links between this poem and Pasternak’s poetry are observed on different levels: the motif level, the level of images, the lexical level. Brodsky adopts some key-motifs of Pasternak, first of all the motifs “blending of things” and “transformation of things”, he re-creates the Pasternak’s imagery (the semantics of steam locomotive, of trees, of birds, of snow, of railway buffet, etc.). In this poem Brodsky re-creates the Pasternak’s poetic code in order to express the semantics alien to Pasternak. The cosmic vision and the motif of correlations between man and thing, inherent in Pasternak’s poetry, attract Brodsky-s attention, because they are also inherent in his poetry. But in the poem “Prishla zima, i vse, kto mog letet’…” (the most “Pasternakovian” poem of Brodsky) the dominant motifs are the apocalyptic catastrofe, the dying, the freezing — the invariant Brodsky’s motifs, which are not characteristic for poetry of Pasternak. The Brodsky’s poem is an interesting example of assimilation and overcoming Pasternak’s poetics.
