이번 연구에서는 천연추출물인 β-gluconsan calcium이구강암 세포의 증식과 사멸에 미치는 영향을 평가하고자 하였으며, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.
β-gluconsan calcium 0.5 mg/ml 처리군에서 세포수의 감소와 형태 변화가 관찰되었으며, 0.75, 1 mg/ml에서는 거의모든 세포가 사멸하였다. β-gluconsan calcium을 농도별로처리한 결과, YD-10B 세포수가 농도 의존적으로 감소하였으며(p＜0.05), MTT 분석 결과, β-gluconsan calcium 처리한 군은 아무것도 처리하지 않은 군에 비해 모두 세포 활성이 저하되었다(p＜0.05). 이상의 결과들을 종합해 보았을때, polycan과 calcium gluconate 복합제인 β-gluconsan calcium은 구강암 세포의 성장 억제에 효과가 있는 것으로생각된다.
