This thesis is aimed at providing effective ways to teach and learn at a time when the achievement standard regarding is set to be newly introduced to the Korean curriculum, under the mandate of developing creative talent and educating identity as emphasized in the general introduction to the 2009 Revised Korean National Curriculum. Problems and weaknesses were identified by analyzing textbooks and teaching guides for grades 1 and 2. Based on these, ways to effectively teach and learn were identified, while also coming up with teaching and learning plans and materials required to satisfy achievement standards in accordance with the Revised Curriculum. The results of analyzing the curriculum revealed various problems including: insufficient content, both quantitatively and qualitatively; lack of consistency in the definitions of ; confusion between and Korean; and errors found in the explanation for teaching guides. Based on these results, various critical responses were considered such as advocating the need for better education; increasing the provision of reference materials for teaching guides; and developing teaching and learning materials for various . In order to satisfy the newly introduced achievement standards for , it is necessary to learn about various to fully understand it quantitatively as well as qualitatively from a cognitive perspective, while also suggesting various activities that allow these words to be used from an affective perspective in everyday life . This thesis provided a list of various materials that can be utilized for instruction by using existing materials. New materials were also suggested along with traditional methods and materials that utilized information communication technology. Hopefully, this study will contribute to the successful implementation and improved results of the Korean curriculum on.
