Purpose: This study was supplying basic data for nursing intervention plan to improve health related to task by examining whether nurses’ burnout is related with work stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in hospitals. Method: The subjects were 205 nurses, working at the hospitals in the D metropolitan city & K city in Chungnam province from July 9th to July 23rd, 2004 by a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The correlated factors of burnout of the nurses in the hospitals were work stress r=.450,p=.000), job satisfaction(r=-.660, p=.000), and organizational commitment(r=-.653, p=.000). The most powerful predictor of burnout of the nurses in hospitals was influenced on job satisfaction(45.3%). A combination of job satisfaction, organizational commitment(6.6%), work stress(6.2%), and age(1.5%) accounted for 59.6% of the variance in burnout of the nurses in hospitals. Conclusion: The results show that nurses’ burnout related to job satisfaction, organizational commitment, work stress, and age in hospitals. It suggested that goal of decreasing nurses’ burnout in hospitals should be helped them lower work stress, raiser job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
