This research analysed how children’s perception of communication with their parents influences their addiction to online games. Research was conducted on fifth- and sixth-grade students at four elementary schools in Jeollabuk-Do. The SPSS 18.0 Program was used for the research data, and frequency, reliability, and multi-regression analyses were conducted. The physical environments at students’ homes were set up as control variables to analyze how children’s perception of their communication with their parents influences their addiction to online games. The results of analyses on the types of communications between parents and children and the level of children’s online game addiction show a link between communication levels and addiction levels. Specifically, results show that the more often parents and children have open-type communication, the lower the level of children’s online game addiction. Conversely, the more often students had problematic-type communication with parents, the higher the level of addiction. Also, children’s addiction to online games was most influenced by whether both of their parents worked.
