This study aimed to investigate the need for setting up “Noun as adjective’ in Korean by analysing the form of ‘X-Jeok’, ‘X-Rop-’, ‘X-Seureop-’, ‘X-ha-’. The paper is focused on the properties of X, which is a precedence vocabulary element, and looked up its usage in Se-jong Korean Spoken Corpus.
As a result, the precedence element(X) in the form of ‘X-Jeok’, ‘X-Rop-’, ‘X-Seureop-’, ‘X-ha-’ shared the properties of adjectives. Therefore, the paper could find out the fact that it could be useful to set up ‘Adjectival norm’ in Korean grammar.
In consequence, the study found that there is a consistent explanation in terms of establishing ‘Adjectival norm’ and the paper looked through the properties of noun([+Noun]) by analysing the precedence vocabulary element X. Moreover, the paper analysed how the element is combined adjective with derivational suffix to modify and act as predicative adjective.
