The purpose of this study is to inquire into the theory on the Kagok and the characteristics of the Korean music aesthetics by analyzing music records printed in the late Chosun Dynasty.
This study reached the following conclusions by analyzing music criticisms left by the contemporary learned men who had sung the Kagok in the late Chosun Dynasty.
First, it was discovered that the basis of the Kagok aesthetics of the late Chosun Dynasty was Chonkiron(the theory on the secrets of nature), the foundation of the philosophy of art in Lao-tzu philosophy in China.
Second, the Kagok have a peculiar method in ordering the numbers on the program.
This study learned that the vision of the time and the universe of the Koreans underlay the method.
This study intends to provide theoretical basis through which endangered the Kagok would be handed down to modern times.
Furthermore, this study is to provide a new academic information for the foundation of the historic study of the late Chosun Dynasty songs and the theoretical study on the Korean traditional songs.
