This paper purposes to attempt new description of Liszt's music through social, cultural and historical context. So far, as a Pianist, composer, teacher, conductor, writer and musical administrator, Liszt enlarged everything that he touched. Liszt composed with the outlook of a performer, and performed with the insight of a composer. And through his many benefactions he advanced the dignity of the profession. First, I try to redefine Liszt's reputation as a virtuoso, and then as a orchestral composer.
Further, this paper attempts to view a new change of Liszt's music in view point of cultural theory of Homi Bhabha (1949- ). This paper introduces 'hybridity' emerged in the late twentieth century, introducing Homi Bhabha's use of the term. Bhabha's cultural theory emphasized on 'variety' in composition of culture. By applying this theory, this paper redefines the meaning and function of Liszt's music as comtemporary social and cultural phenomenon.
