앤드류 로이드 웨버의 선율은 서양음악의 전통적이고 고전적인 보편적 선율의 성공 조건들에 부합한다. 로이드 웨버의 선율은 다음과 같은 세부적 특징을 갖는데, 인지하기 쉬운 단순하고 명료한 구성, 세련된 비화성음의 활용, 순차진행과 도약진행 사이의 균형, 기악적 생동감을 주는 화성적인 선율과 특징적 음형을 반복적으로 사용한다. 5음 음계적 특징을 활용한 주제들과 다양한 리듬의 결합을 통한 변화로 곡의 통일성과 다양성을 충족시킨다. 또한, 선율의 음역과 윤곽의 확대, 선율의 지연과 동형진행에 있어 고전적 음악 어법의 방식을 따르고 있고, 절충주의적 음악적 클리셰를 효과적으로 활용하고 있으며, 무엇보다 가사의 인토네이션을 선율적으로 실현시켜 완성도를 높였다. 선율의 문장적인 구조, 단순하면서도 명료한 윤곽을 가진 주제들, 안정된 화성진행에 적절한 변화를 주는 선법적 화음과 변성화음, 섬세한 비화성음들이 더해져 앤드류 로이드 웨버의 음악적 특징을 만들고 있는 것이다. 그의 음악을 통해, 세계음악시장에서 소통되고 있는 대중적이고 보편적인 음악의 소통가능한 음악의 기본조건들을 확인할 수 있다. 고전에 기반한 선율과 화성진행들이 적절히 응용, 용해되어 다른 음악으로 재탄생되고 있다는데서 로이드 웨버의 절충주의는 성공했다고 할 수 있다. 공통된 음악 경험적 언어가 실용음악에서 더욱 청중과의 소통에 필요한 기본요소임을 확인하였을 뿐 아니라, 음악적 재료로서 아직도 새로운 해석과 활용의 여지를 갖고 있다는 사실을 확인할 수 있다. 새로움과 다름, 개성 찾기와 더불어 음악의 공통 경험적 요소들의 다양한 응용을 고민한다면, 세계음악시장에서 소통 가능한 성공적인 실용음악 콘텐츠를 만들어낼 수 있을 것이다.

This study illuminates that Andrew Lloyd Webber's popular music shares the general principles and common factors of the classical music, model text in music education, thus, confirms that his music can be useful as new text in educating students of practical music and commercial music who want to acquire audience about the viable common denominators of musical communication - speaking and experiencing in the same musical language. Viewed from the perspective of conditions for success in the realm of classical music, Andrew Lloyd Webber's melodies do not deviate much from the conditions of traditional and classical melodies of the Western music. Lloyd Webber's music does not lose unity even in its diversity. He uses one or two ideas in a musical work and maintains structural balance by making overall unity through developing musical structures without losing the similarities. His methods of developing melodies by expanding tonal range and contour are observed in classical melodic methodology. While fulfilling the three conditions of creating melodic diversity, namely change, contrast and rhythm, Lloyd Webber inserts different expressions to simple melodies by utilizing various rhythms from rock, swing, and Latin music. Also, importantly, for effective communication of the lyrics, his melodic movement is very similar to the intonation of sentences. To avoid making unnecessary accent with articles or conjunctions, such words are arranged with upbeat, while key vocabularies are emphasized with melodic leaps, downbeat and/or placing turning points of melodies. Following these fundamental principles helped Lloyd Webber's melodies to be recognized immediately by the mass and became important foundation for the success of his music. The characteristics of his music consist of the stylistic structure of melodies coinciding with the intonation and accents of words, simple themes with distinct contour which helps to remember, introducing proper changes to stable harmonic movement through the various application of modal chords and borrowed chords, and adding polished non-harmonic tones. In addition, the movements of melodies and harmonics Lloyd Webber borrowed from the clichés of classical music are applied and melt in his music, being reborn as novel music.
