In this paper, we pay attention to the specific motifs which are handed down assuming a different aspect. It is based on the historical experience of different peoples and nations. Formed undergo many years, the experiences of different nations may be an individual. But Oral epic poetry emphasizes a particular character and idolizes to inspire a national pride. Just then the corresponding nation’s ‘hero’ is associated with the emergence of various motifs. However, with other genres of oral literature which are based on historical facts, it must be remembered that is reflected the imagination of the people with a wide range with historical facts in the oral epic poetry. At a deeper level, serbian and croatian oral epic poetry represented the　common peoples beliefs about the events and people, the veracity of which was not doubted, not only because it was based on the　testimony　of earlier generations, on cultural-historical　facts, but also because those facts took on a certain epic figurativeness. In this paper, taking into account as a common national culture, ‘hero’ motifs were investigated through a serbian and croatian oral epic poetry. Prince Marko, the most popular serbian hero, whose fame spread among all South Slavs, was inevitably ascribed all the characteristics common to those outlaws. In a number of magic tales the hero is depicted as the true of his environment. And while keeping all the characteristics of the magic tale hero, he represents synthesis of features typical of a given historical period and of a specific social class. Depending on the nature of the act of a hero, can be classified from various perspectives. Thus, it can be said that the heroic mythology lies on a common layer between the oral prose(myth, legend etc.) and the oral poetry(epic poetry).
