The purpose of this study was to evaluate successful aging and subjective well-being of elderly Korean-Americans and to analyze the factors influencing these concepts. Data were collected from 117 participants aged 60 and older in Honolulu, HI, USA. SPSS 19.0 software was used for a descriptive analysis of the data pertaining to successful aging and subjective well-being and a hierarchical regression analysis was used to examine the factors influencing reports of successful aging and subjective well-being. The findings indicate that (1) the mean score of successful aging as measured by a five-point Likert scale was 3.53 and that the mean score of subjective well-being using Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale was 10.21, indicating fairly good successful aging and subjective well-being; (2) instrumental and emotional support from family and relatives and the number of social activities were statistically significant factors predicting higher degrees of successful aging in the elderly Korean-Americans; (3) the high number for income sources, emotional support from family and relatives, and the low number for chronic diseases were significant factors predicting subjective well-being in the Korean-Americans in this study. Based on the findings, implications for social welfare intervention strategies to improve successful aging and subjective well-being in Korean-Americans are discussed.
