The concept of ‘authenticity’ has been proposed by MacCannell(1973). MacCannell, a socialist, argued that tourists could experience either a fake or real culture of destinations. According to him, the most important travel experience for a tourist is the culture itself of a destination. That is, a tourist’s experience level is determined rather by the essence of culture, such as staged or true authenticity of tourist resources. Recently, Cohen & Cohen (2012) argued authentication, the social process of authenticity is the essence of tourist experiences and more important than the authenticity, the culture itself. The study tried to analyze natural and cultural tourist attractions of Inner Mongolia by authentication process such as hot and cool ones. Several discussions regarding authentication process of the tourist resources in the region are made. The authentication of tourist attractions of Inner Mongolia could be done by the qualitative criteria suggested by Cohen. Through this analysis of authentication of tourist resources in Inner Mongolia, the study suggests that tourism industry could take advantage of classification of the existing resources into two different authentication categories to propel the tourism of Inner Mongolia as ecotourism of grassland.
