This paper aims at searching for the teaching plan for narrative education to formulate an ethical subject. For this purpose, the relationship between narrative behavior and formulation of an ethical subject has been examined. Traditional narrative texts imply some ethical values pursued by the society. As such, human beings can interact with ethical values through narrative texts, and they can be raised as ethical subjects during the process. A series of narrative behaviors such as accommodating narrative texts, recognizing life in a narrative context, and producing narrative texts, which may be referred to as hermeneutic circle, contributes to formulating ethical subjects. For this reason, hermeneutic circle focusing on ethical values has been taken as the teaching plan for formulating ethical subjects. In detail, students are arranged to experience certain ethical values reading narrative literature, and they are encouraged to recognize the world against the values and to put their experience into expression. Hermeneutic circle focusing on ethical values may be divided into two: centripetal circle and centrifugal circle. Taking into consideration the fact that moral internalization should precede the formulation of ethical subjects, this paper has concluded that centripetal circle should be followed by centrifugal circle. The reason is that forcing lower and middle graders of elementary school to make subjective ethical judgments may result in anarchism as they have not been exposed to the ethical horizon. It is advisable that such students should be guided to understand ethical values and the ethical horizon, and then, they should be encourage to do metaphysical reflections on the norms of the community as their ethical judgment capacity grows. In conclusion, for the teaching plan to formulate ethical subjects, this paper proposes “teaching ethical values by virtue of centripetal circle” and “teaching for the formation of ethical subjects by virtue of centrifugal circle.”
