Some scholars continued pursuing the scientificity and universality of the five-social-formation theory of Marxism,they still followed such theories as the feudal society beginning from the West Zhou Dynasty,the Spring and Autumn Period or the Warring States Period from the 1980’s.The scholars who advocating the society of the West Zhou Dynasty was feudal society declared that the feudalism beginning from the West Zhou Dynasty,which could be named after feudal lord society,or patriarch feudal society. The scholars who advocating the feudalism beginning from the Spring and Autumn Period declared that the feudal private ownership of land was established gradually after the West Zhou Dynasty. In some countries,the landlord class seized political power from the slave owners by armed forces,they established the dictatorship of the landlord class,carried out feudal reforms,which promoted the establishment of the feudalism. The scholars who advocating the feudalism beginning from the Warring States Period declared that the society of the Xia,Shang and the West Zhou Dynasties were slave society,the slavery began to collapse and to transform into feudalism gradually during the Spring and Autumn Period, feudalism was established formally in the Warring States Period. Scholars differed and debated heatedly on the question that whether the Pre-Qin period once experienced slave society during the late of 1970s and the beginning of 1980s.The Scholars who affirmed slave society once existed in the Pre-Qin period not only insisted on the identicality and similarity between the character of the slave society existed in the Pre-Qin period and Marx’s theory.but also emphasized the diversity of the slave society,it was normal that there was some difference between the character of the slave society existed in the Pre-Qin period and Marx’s theory. The Scholars who denied slave society once existed in the Pre-Qin period declared that Marx’s theory,which mainly based on the European history was not in accordance with the fact of Ancient China. In pace with the ideological emancipation, even more widespread understanding and reference to some relevant theories in the West, the five-social-formation theory has been in question increasingly. More and more scholars have put forward some social character theories, which are in accordance with the fact of Chinese history.
