“Ahl al-Baṣrah min al-masjidīīn” is one of the representative stories in Kitab al-Bukhala’ as it is a frame story and has elements of satire. This paper has investigated the contents of the story in terms of satire. “Ahl al-Baṣrah min al-masjidīīn” which has shown avarice of misers in 9th century . This frame story is comprised of one outer story and five inner stories. A group of persons who live in Basra used to have gathering in a Masjid to discuss and praise “thrift”. The thrift is their real creed as they are misers. Their thought and behaviors are humorous outer, blameful inner. Five Sheiks delivered various cases which they have got from their own experiences or second hands. The result of their behaviors is just to keep their creed ‘thrift’ which is ‘not paying’. The stories have transformed something serious to easy, religious to secular.
