The focus of this paper, which belongs to the first half of the project to clarify the conception of the Nothing (das Nichts) which figures in Heidegger’s Being and Time and “What is Metaphysics?”, is on the interpretation of the former work. First, I criticized the preceding interpretations, proposed by Walter Schultz, Alberto Rosales and William J. Richardson, regarding the Nothing as either the world which the subject discloses or the disclosure of Being itself. I discuss that drawing a strict line between these two choices is misleading because both do not seem to be oppositional to each other. The Nothing is the experience of Dasein’s transfer of disclosedness (Erschlossenheit): this transfer of the Dasein’s disclosedness indicates the experience which Dasein discloses their own world by escaping from the dominance of public world and domestic environment (die Umwelt). Furthermore, the transfer of the Dasein’s disclosedness is that of the self which Dasein regains herself from the way of living as they-selves (das Man-selbst). Consequently, I will interpret that Dasein’s transfer of disclosedness indicates that Dasein regaining herself could let beings reveal as themselves.
